A conditional green card is a green card granted to a person applying for permanent residence of the United States of America that has certain conditions placed on the card that must be met or satisfied within a set time period. A common misconception is that a conditional green card is a bad thing. It is in fact a good step in the right direction for those seeking permanent residency in the US.
Basically a conditional green card might be placed on those seeking a k1 visa or a k3 visa. (the fiance visa or spouse visa respectively). The common condition in this instance is the wedding does in fact take place or that the wedding lasts for two or more years. The applicant must remember to apply for the conditions to be lifted within 90 days of the conditional green card’s expiration date or risk deportation.
