Profile of the American Akita

by admin on May 17, 2009

Considered one of the most majestic and loyal dog breeds, the American Akita is a great dog to own either as a family pet or as an animal to guard your property. Descendant from the Japanese Akita Inu, the Akita has become a national symbol of loyalty in Japan and there are several monuments in the country dedicated to this breed.

The American Akita is an intelligent, willful and agile dog. They love human companionship but can be a little rebellious if proper dominance is not established from puppy hood. Akitas have a high sense of independence, so if consistent reinforcement of obedience is not maintained it could lead to problems in adulthood with biting and aggression. while Akitas are great around kids, it is always advised to never leave these dogs around unattended small children.
