Is There A Test for Perimenopause?

by admin on August 11, 2009

If you’re experiencing any perimenopausal symptoms and curious if your entering into menopause, there are some tests that your doctor can perform that will give you answers. Your doctors will most likely check to see if your symptoms can be explained by pregnancy or thyroid disease so she will probably run these tests first.

If those tests come back negative then your doctor will probably run a blood test to check your estrogen levels, when your estrogen level begin to decline it’s a big sign that you’re entering into menopause. Another test your doctor might conduct is a test for follicle stimulating hormone (FSH); this hormone causes estrogen to be produced in the ovaries. In the case of FSH, an increase in FSH production actually means your estrogen level is decreasing.

Either of these two tests will give you some of the answers you’re hoping for so make that doctor’s appointment today.
